4 effective tips to restore the whiteness of your yellowed appliances

Clean your appliances effortlessly? It’s possible! By knowing the right tips, you’ll be able to simplify this tedious task to get your kitchen sparkling again. Refrigerator, microwave, washing machine…Discover some great blends to make any surface white and shiny.

While our appliances are bright white after they are purchased, it usually takes only a few months for their color to change to a duller, even yellowish shade. The kitchen then takes on that old-fashioned look, despite regular maintenance efforts. Fortunately, this is far from being irreversible and it is perfectly possible to whiten your appliances by using the right ingredients. Let’s focus on natural products to remove those stubborn yellow streaks and eliminate embedded dirt.

How to whiten yellowed appliances?
Many of us have noticed that the whiteness of our appliances disappears quite quickly. And for good reason, a myriad of factors are responsible for this: fingerprints, grease build-up after preparing a meal, kitchen fumes and vapors, or even cigarette smoke and nicotine. In this sense, it is essential to use effective cleaners.

To adopt the green spirit, there is nothing better than homemade cleaning products. Environmentally friendly and non-polluting, they are an excellent alternative to chemical products and are, for the most part, already present in your kitchen. To your sponges!

1. Baking soda
When added to water, baking soda is prepared as a paste to be spread to clean and degrease the exterior of your appliances. Simply leave this multi-purpose powder on for about 10 minutes before wiping with a damp cloth to remove any residue and then a clean microfiber cloth to dry the surface. This tip is also useful for the door of your washing machine, which can also become discolored from being touched with your fingers.

2. White Vinegar
With a plethora of household uses, white vinegar can be used in a variety of ways for cleaning around the house. And the kitchen is no exception. In fact, you can soak a cloth or sponge (soft side) with this natural disinfectant and use it to gently scrub the appliance. Leave the product on for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water and wiping with a dry microfiber cloth.

3. Lemon juice
Thanks to its citric acid content, lemon juice has a natural whitening power, which makes it an outstanding stain remover, especially for plastic and stainless steel surfaces. Bonus: it also neutralizes bad odors! To take advantage of this, dissolve 3 to 5 spoonfuls of lemon juice in a liter of hot water and use a cloth soaked in this mixture to scrub the surfaces. Then wipe with a clean, damp towel and let dry. Citrus juice is also very useful to restore the whiteness of your laundry or to descale and clean the toilet.

4. Black soap
Like Marseille soap, black soap is an excellent degreaser that works particularly well on ovens and hoods and removes tough stains. To benefit from its cleaning action and regain an optimal shine, pour a small amount of black soap on a sponge soaked in water and rub the dirty surfaces. Rinse with hot water to restore the shine. If your appliances are very dirty, let this natural product work overnight, then rinse the next morning.
